Ryan Murphy’s FX series American Sports Story just cast the lead role to play Aaron Hernandez’s fiancee. As exclusively reported by Deadline, Jaylen Barron, the 25-year-old actress best known for Showtime’s Shameless and Free Rein on Netflix, is tapped to play the troubled late NFL star’s better half, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez. Murphy’s anthology limited series at the network is the newest project from the American Horror Story creator.

Check this: the story was adapted from the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc., marking the first run of American Sports Story, which will focus on the meteoric rise and tragic fall of NFL superstar tight end Aaron Hernandez.

Written by Stu Zicherman, the series will dive into the who behind Hernandez, his abrupt death by suicide, and the ensuing infamy that followed. If you forgot, his fiancé Jenkins stood by his side during his trial and subsequent conviction for the murder of his friend Odin Lloyd. Then things got crazier when Hernandez was indicted for a double murder while still on trial for Lloyd’s murder. The indictment stemmed from the wild 2012 double murder of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. However, ICYMI Hernandez was acquitted on all charges in 2017. Then, only days after being found not guilty, Hernandez committed suicide after he was found dead in his jail cell.

Barron is also known for playing Trish in the Starz adaptation of Blindspotting. Barron joins a cast alongside Catfish Jean, Tony Yazbeck, Lindsay Mendez, and Patrick Schwarzenegger. Josh Andres Rivera will star as the titular Aaron Hernandez.

Netflix Cancels Halle Berry’s Film ‘The Mothership’ Over Post-production Delays

The Mothership has been taken off the release schedule at Netflix. The Halle Berry sci-fi starrer has run into problems, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

“Berry and the Mothership team already completed much of the filming on the project, but it was in need of extensive reshoots to get it over the finish line. Netflix opted not to move forward with those reshoots and shelved the film instead.” Then Variety reported, “The movie finished filming in 2021, but it couldn’t be completed after multiple delays in post-production.”

The story was set as Berry playing a “woman who discovers an extraterrestrial object beneath her home a year after her husband’s disappearance.” The film was written and directed by Matthew Charman and had an ensemble cast that included Molly Parker, John Ortiz, and Omari Hardwick.

With the state of the industry, it is not a huge shock when a project shows this degree of chaos. Just take Warner Bros. Discovery’s 2022 canning Batgirl, a DC superhero film that had wrapped production and was due out under the HBO Max streaming banner.

MRC was producing the film, and Berry, along with Danny Stillman, served as executive producers. Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones from Automatik were producers on board.

Berry has a deal with Netflix and will star in the upcoming film The Union along with Mark Wahlberg. She’s still running strong, and that matters!

All the claps for Colman Domingo becuase he is going crazy. Fresh off being announced for a role in the forthcoming Michael Jackson Biopic, Domingo will take on the Nat King Cole story.

According to Variety, Domingo will star as Nat King Cole in a movie musical that he co-wrote. Domingo will also make his directing debut.

“I’ve been working on it quietly for a few years,” Domingo said. “It’s something I’m looking forward to putting together with some great partners.”

The film is being produced by Graham King (Bohemian Rhapsody), alongside John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate. Expect Michael to hit theaters on April 18, 2025.

King said “I’m so honored to tell Michael’s story. It’s been a long journey and I’m excited for the film to show audiences around the world a perspective of Michael that they’ve never seen,”

“Michael Jackson was inarguably one of the greatest entertainers of all time,” was the quote from Adam Fogelson, Chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “His impact on music, video, art, fashion, culture – and so much more – was extraordinary and is still profoundly relevant. Ice Spice thinks you’re just a booty hole blowing a kiss. On Friday, the rapper released her silly single “Think U the Sh*t (Fart)” several weeks after teasing the track online.

“Think you the shit, bitch? You not even the fart,” she raps. “I be going hard. I’m breaking they hearts, like. Bitches be quick, but I’m quicker. Bitches be thick, but I’m thicker. She could be rich, but I’m richer.”

On Thursday, the singer shared the artwork for the track, which sees her flipping off the camera (with her middle finger blurred out) and her orange hair straightened. “Fart @ midnight,” she captioned the announcement.

Ice Spice first teased the single with a snippet on X (formerly Twitter) over an image of Mario from Super Mario Bros. smoking a joint and the lyrics “Bitches be thinking they the shit, but they ain’t even the fart!” The snippet quickly went viral on TikTok.

The snippet featured the start of the song as Ice Spice giggled, “The fuck am I even supposed to say in the intro?” over a video games-esque sound.

LIL NAS X has shared an introspective single, “Where Do We Go Now?” The reflective song was written for his HBO Original documentary Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero, which premieres Jan. 27 on Max.

The rapper announced the song, co-written by Lil Nas X alongside Omer Fedi and Blake Slatkin, earlier this week, teasing its inward-leaning nature by noting on social media, “good news yall im dropping new music to match with your depression.”

Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero follows Lil Nas X as he prepares to embark on his first U.S. headlining tour. The film, which previously premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival, was directed by Carlos López Estrada and Zac Manuel. In addition to footage of the tour, the documentary includes interviews with the artist in which he reflects on his career so far and his sexuality. Like the stage show, the film is structured into three parts: Rebirth, Transformation, and Becoming.

Earlier this month, Lil Nas X unveiled a new single, “J. Christ,” along with a controversial music video that showcased him being strapped to a cross. Following an uproar, the pop star addressed the provocation in a video message to fans. “This is not to try to get everybody on my good side or whatnot. This is more so to clear my head about my own decisions. I know I messed up really bad this time,” he said in the clip. “And I can act unbothered all I want but it’s definitely taking a mental toll on me.”

Justin Timberlake stopped by The Tonight Show to promote his forthcoming album, Everything I Thought It Was, and took the opportunity to announce that he will be hitting the road later this year. After much prompting from host Jimmy Fallon, Timberlake confirmed, “I’m going on tour.”

Although full details of the tour have yet to be revealed, Fallon announced it will be a global trek dubbed the Forget Tomorrow World Tour and will kick off April 29 in Vancouver, Canada. Fallon listed a few of the tour dates, including Seattle, Fort Worth, TX, and Miami, and confirmed that it will include a stop at Madison Square Garden. Tickets go on sale Feb. 2. Elsewhere on The Tonight Show, Timberlake joined Fallon and the Roots to perform a medley of hits, including “Señorita,” “SexyBack,” and “Selfish,” with classroom instruments. In the clip, Timberlake played the triangle and sang the lyrics along with Fallon.

Earlier this week, Timberlake unveiled a new single, “Selfish,” ahead of his forthcoming 18-song album, Everything I Thought It Was. The album — his first since 2018’s Man of the Woods — will arrive on March 15 via RCA. It is available to preorder now in a variety of formats, including a Timberlake Store exclusive version complete with postcards, a photo strip, a 20-page booklet, and pressed on clear double vinyl. While Timberlake didn’t reveal the album’s track list, he said there are 18 songs on the LP, culled down from over 100 songs he worked on while recording the album.

During his appearance on The Tonight Show, Timberlake told Fallon that “making this album is different from any other one.” He added, “Different from making albums before because I would just go in for a block of time, and say this is what we made and this is what it is.”

Radiohead side project the Smile have released a music video for their recent single, “Friend Of A Friend,” which was directed by filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. The video premiered in 35mm alongside a surround sound album playback of the group’s new LP, Wall of Eyes, at a series of events at independent cinemas held in 18 cities.

In the clip, the three-piece band, which includes Radiohead members Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood alongside drummer Tom Skinner, performs in a school gym in front of a crowd of children. Most of the young audience seem unamused by the introspective, ambient song.

The Smile’s sophomore album, Wall of Eyes, is out today via XL Recordings. The LP was recorded between Oxford and Abbey Road Studios, and was produced and mixed by Sam Petts-Davies. It features string arrangements by the London Contemporary Orchestra.

In addition to releasing their new album, the Smile will also head back out on the road this year in Europe and the U.K., with dates in March, June, and August. The band will also perform at the BBC 6 Music festival in Manchester, England on March 9, where they will be joined on stage by the London Contemporary Orchestra.

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER than words for Brittany Howard on her latest single “Prove It to You.” The song will appear on the Alabama Shakes singer’s upcoming solo album What Now, out Feb. 9.

“My next song is one I’m really proud of,” Howard wrote on TikTok last week while previewing the song’s synth-driven sound. “It’s different than anything I’ve ever done but felt like a cornerstone of the new record. The band and I are excited to perform this one live for you all.”

In a statement that accompanied the single’s arrival, Howard added, “I wanted to write a fun four-on-the-floor dance track that makes you want to dance but at the same time lyrically looked at the complexities of being in a relationship. I love those songs that might not be exactly what they appear to be on the surface.”

“I’ve never been good at saying what I mean/Every time I try it comes out incomplete,” Howard sings over bass-heavy, psychedelic production on “Prove It to You,” later adding: “I’ve never been any good at falling in love/I fall so I hard I never get up/Don’t hurt me girl/I can’t take it no more/Makes me ask what I’m doing it for.”

LCD Soundsystem Unveils North American Leg of ‘Kinda’ Tour

LCD Soundsystem announced dates for a small North American tour they’re labeling as a “Kinda” Tour set to begin this spring.

Starting in Guadalajara, Mexico in March, the group’s first U.S. date (excluding their headlining festival slot at the Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City) will be at the Hayden Homes Amphitheater in Bend, Oregon on May 14th. They’ll play four nights in Seattle’s Paramount Theatre in May, followed by one night at the Armory in Minneapolis. The tour will wrap with four shows in Chicago at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom.

Tickets for the Kinda Tour – which pokes fun at the fact that the band mostly only plays in New York City, with some California thrown in – will go on sale at 10 a.m. local time, and fans can register for tickets on the band’s website.

Outside of their North American dates, LCD Soundsystem will also be playing several dates across Europe, including the All Points East Festival in London and Down the Rabbit Hole in the Netherlands.

Mike and the Moonpies Rebranding as ‘Silverada’

MIKE AND THE Moonpies are changing their name. After 16 years of recording and performing under that moniker, singer Mike Harmeier and his barnstorming Texas five-piece are rebranding as “Silverada.”

Harmeier announced the overhaul during an intimate performance moderated by Rolling Stone at Key West’s Mile 0 Festival, a prestige gathering for Red Dirt, country, and Americana artists and fans. On Friday night, the group will publicly retire the Moonpies moniker for good during their main-stage performance, finishing their set and leaving the stage as Silverada. For all five members, the change has been a long time coming.

After watching the Red Dirt and Americana country scene explode over the last few years, with artists like Turnpike Troubadours, Zach Bryan, and Flatland Cavalry garnering national attention, the Moonpies felt their name — started as a joke when Harmeier used to play cover songs — was hindering their progress.

“We have been talking about name change for many, many years,” Harmeier tells Rolling Stone. “The climate for the music that we make is very good right now. This scene that is happening now is a mainstream country scene. When we started out, it wasn’t really that way, and here we are — old hat at it now. It’s like we’ve climbed to the top of a ladder and there’s no escape hatch up there. How do we go to that next level? It seems to me like I need to refresh the idea of what we’re doing to new listeners.”
