If you’ve spent any time in the Seattle rap scene you already know the sound. WON knows it too, and he made a deliberate choice to be everything it isn’t.
Born and raised in Seattle, Hollywood Won has been carving out his own lane since 2019 with high-pitched melodies and bars that stick to you like a hook should. He pulls from hip hop but also absorbs punk energy and jazz texture, a combination that explains a lot about why he stands out in a city where, as he puts it, everyone sounds the same. He doesn’t. He sounds like WON.
His inspiration started close to home. His brother has been rapping since 2013 and passed on everything he knew about delivery, about how to ride a beat, about the fundamentals that separate an artist from someone who just makes songs. WON took all of it and then built something new on top of it. That’s exactly what a torch is for.
The newest proof is “PLG from Atlanta,” his latest single produced by NYC-based beatmaker @lofires. Won made the song in his room after the producer sent him the beat cold. The result is a track built purely for a good time, no heavy concept, no message to decode, just undeniable energy and one of the more creative bars you’ll hear this year. “I got cheese upon my bread, I call it stuffed crust.” That’s the kind of line that makes you rewind it.
The video was shot at night on a Seattle beach with the bros present, exactly the kind of authentic low-key energy that translates on screen.
He’s building his Spotify monthly listeners, staying consistent with visuals, and keeping his eyes on the next level. A major artist or label co-sign is the goal and if the trajectory holds, it’s not a matter of if, it’s when.
